Report on Action Mesothelioma Day (AMD) 2009.
The 3rd AMD was the most succesful to date with over 170 in attendance.
MAVS organised the event jointly with the Cheshire Asbestos Victims Support Group whose excellent display of the names of victims on the scroll during the meeting was very well appreciated by all who attended the event and and served as a poignant reminder of why all present were in attendance.
Peter Kilfoyle (Walton), Master of ceremonies for the beginning of the day at 12:00 and we had Louise Ellman (Riverside), Jane Kennedy (Wavertree) and Eddie O'Hara (Knowsley South). There were also 25 children from St Vincent's De Paul School, Pitt Street, Liverpool who attended for the Dove Release Ceremony and enhanced the day showing the future generations of workers who need to be protected from asbestos exposure.

We collected over 2,500 signatures to the petition in support of a National Centre for Asbestos Related Diseases(NCARD). These signatures, together with all al those collected by other asbestos groups will be handed in to Downing Street later in the year.
During the conference it was announced that next year's AMD is likely to be held in the summer months to take advantage of the hopefully more pleasant weather.
MAVSG would like to thank all Civic Dignitaries, speakers, the children and staff of St Vincents De Paul School, The staff of Liverpool Town Hall, the sponsors of the event, all volunteers who made the day happen and, last but not least, all those victims and families who sacrified their time to attend, thank you.
